Dr. Hays specializes in comprehensive psychological assessments of neurobehavioral problems such as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, problems with executive functioning, learning and memory deficits, specific learning disabilities, developmental delays, and the interplay of cognitive abilities and emotional/behavioral concerns. The primary focus of her practice is with children and adolescents, although assessment of adult ADHD is available.

Common referral questions include assessment for ADHD, Specific Learning Disabilities, Pervasive Developmental Disorders, School Readiness, Depression, Anxiety, and Anger/Oppositional Behavior.

The Evaluation Process

The diagnostic assessment is comprehensive and will consist of approximately 8-10 hours of direct patient contact. The first session is a 2-hour meeting with only the parents to obtain background information and to clarify current concerns. Completion of behavior rating scales by parents and teachers is often requested.

Psychological testing is conducted on separate days with the child/adolescent. Total hours of testing range from 2-8 hours, depending on the referral question. Following the evaluation, a feedback session is scheduled with the parents to review the results and offer appropriate recommendations.

A complete written report outlining the test results and recommendations will be mailed to the parents approximately 3-4 weeks after the feedback session. Attendance at school staff meetings and/or consultation with school staff is also available at an additional fee.

Fees

Every effort is made to provide a comprehensive as well as an affordable assessment. Fees are billed at an hourly rate which include the time spent in face-to-face client contact, reviewing records, scoring protocals, and report writing. A typical evaluation ranges from $1500 to $2500 depending on the referral question and previous testing. Personal checks, cash, Visa, Master Card, Discover, and American Express are accepted.  Insurance is not accepted by this office. However, receipts are provided to families who wish to seek re-imbursement from insurance. Full payment is required at the time of service.

Scheduling

Appointments may be scheduled Monday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm. To ensure optimal performance, testing sessions are typically scheduled from 9 am to 12 noon.

Evaluation Services Offered

*Preschool Developmental Evaluations

Early detection of developmental delays is important for effective treatments. Developmental evaluations compare your child’s cognitive, adaptive, and behavioral development to those of same-aged peers.

*Kindergarten Readiness Evaluations

Schools often require a prospective student to demonstrate specific cognitive and adaptive skills in order for early entrance to Kindergarten. As a parent, understanding your child's abilities can help you make informed decisions about your child’s educational needs.

*Psycho-educational Testing

Psycho-educational evaluations focus on the assessment of a student’s intellectual, cognitive, and academic functioning for the purposes of making recommendations for educational services. This type of evaluation is used for identifying learning disabilities, learning style, and/or gifted abilities.

*Neuropsychological Assessment

This comprehensive assessment is recommended when a child is experiencing complex problems involving learning difficulties, attention and/or hyperactivity problems, behavioral problems, language delays, developmental delays, or has experienced a head injury or has a neurological or genetic disorder.  Assessments focus on attention, memory, language, visuospatial processing, sensorimotor functions, problem solving, adaptive functioning, psychosocial development as well as intelligence and academic achievement.

*Consultation

Consultation is available to review of previous psychological testing, discuss concerns about common childhood/adolescent problems, and to consider possible treatment and intervention options.
